Healthier Hot Cocoa
I’m coming at you with all the winter & Christmas content… and of course we have to start off with the most delicious hot cup of cocoa! But this isn’t just any ordinary hot cup of cocoa! It’s my chocolatey & perfectly sweet healthier hot cocoa! Made with such amazing and simple ingredients! I find it hard to actually enjoy a cup of hot chocolate unless it’s this one…. I know BUT you have to try it for yourself! It’s so easy to make and you can whip it up in under 5 minutes! I made it for my whole family and they are obsessed! I use raw cacao and it has the best flavour, and it’s also incredible for you! Along with some dark chocolate (i like 80% or above), and to finish some coconut whip cream! YUM! It’s so satisfying on a cold evening or coming in after the cold! This healthier hot cocoa is just the best!
What You’ll Need
HEALTHIER HOT COCOA
raw cacoa or cocoa powder
dark chocolate
almond milk and/or water (I do half an half)
maple syrup or honey
vanila
sea salt
coconut whip cream for topping
Making the Healthier Hot Cocoa
This is such an easy process, and once you make it once I guarantee you will be whipping this up all throughout the winter! All you have to do is add your almond milk, cacao, dark chocolate, maple syrup, vanilla, and sea salt to sauce pan on low-medium heat and allow it to heat up and melt all together! …. and VOILA! Healthier Hot Cocoa! There is just something about the realness and richness and these ingredients that makes this hot cocoa something else! I like to do almond milk and water in mine, but you can totally just do the full amount of your choice of milk! I like to use a little bit of water just to take down the creaminess a tad! Make sure you don’t forget the sea salt, it enhances all the favours and really takes this hot cocoa to the next level!
Once everything has melted together and you get a clear and chocolatey brown consistency you are ready to serve! Make sure to give it a good taste test and see if it needs to be a little sweeter, or maybe add a little bit more sea salt to pull all the flavours together!
Now for the toppings, the best part! This really finishes off this healthier hot chocolate and makes it fancy and extraordinary! I just did coconut whipped cream and chocolate shavings but you could do marshmallows, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or some dried rose petals! Maybe a sprinkle of cinnamon! There are so many options!

Ingredients
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2 tbsp water optional
- 4 tbsp raw cacao or cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp chopped dark chocolate I like to use 80%
- 2-3 tbsp maple syrup or honey more to taste
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp sea salt
TOPPINGS
- coconut whipped cream
- chocolate shavings
Instructions
- In a saucepan add you almond milk, cocoa, dark chocolate, maple syrup, vanilla, and sea salt and place on low- medium heat
- Once everything is melted together and you get a chocolatey consistency, you are ready to serve! Taste test to see if it needs some more sweetness or maybe a little extra sea salt
- Pour into you favourite mug, and top your choice of toppings! (above there are lots of listed options) Enjoy this rich and creamy delight!
