Making The Garlic Roasted Hummus

Once you actually understand how easy this hummus is to make, your going to be making it all the time! It’s really fun to also play with all the flavour profiles once you get the hang of homemade hummus. You can add in different spices or herbs to change the flavour and seasoning! I’m trying to create the perfect pesto hummus as well! I’ll share that as soon as I’m done creating it! First things first, you will want to roast your garlic heads! Preheat your oven to 350 degrees! I start by slicing a little layer off of the top of the garlic heads, so you can see each individual garlic clove! I usually use three garlic heads, feel free to use more or less! I then place them into a small baking dish. I add about 1/3 cup of olive oil and my spices on top. For this hummus I like to season the garlic with paprika, onion & garlic salt, parsley. The key to incredible hummus is to utilize that beautifully flavoured olive oil that bakes in the oven with the garlic! We had about half of this back into the hummus, and then I love to add the other half to the top when it’s all plated! It soooo delicious flavoured with those spices and the essence of garlic! So make sure to keep the roasted olive oil safe after it comes out of the oven! The garlic takes about 20-30 minutes depending on your oven, you want the garlic to be soft enough to squeeze out of the head! The smell is simply divine!
While your garlic is baking in the oven, start by straining and rinsing your chickpeas, add them to a food processor or blender, along with your tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and spices! If you don’t have the spice Za’atar, that’s totally fine! Just add a little more oregano instead! I’m generous when it comes to spices! Once your garlic is done, squeeze the cloves into your processor along with half of the roasted olive oil, and safe the rest of the roasted olive oil for the top of your hummus! Trust me on this!
Blend everything together and taste test to see if you need a little more spices, salt, or lemon juice! Here is my trick to getting perfectly smooth and most creamiest hummus ever, add about 1/4 cup of filtered ice cold water to your hummus and blend again! If you want it even smoother and creamier you can add a bit more! Just make sure to check your flavours after to see if you need more of anything! That’s what I love so much about making my own hummus, how much you play with the flavours and seasonings! Once it’s to your liking you can go ahead and plate it, or start eating it right away! Your going to be addicted trust me! I love to plate this hummus smoothed out on a plate, topped with some roasted chickpeas, more za’atar, the rest of that roasted olive oil! and some fresh herbs! It’s also divine topping it with some kalamata olives and goat cheese if your feeling fancy!
This is such a show stopper when it’s plated beautifully, and makes for the most beautiful appetizer for a dinner party or lunch! And I just love how easy it is to whip up a batch at home! This garlic roasted hummus can’t be beat! I’m so so so excited for you to try this recipe! Add this hummus to any dinner bowl, for dipping fresh veggies, or it’s perfect for any charcuterie board! The options to enjoy this hummus are endless! Sometimes I will literally be standing there eating it with a spoon… I’m not kidding! Lol I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
