Thrifting + Fashion, A Love Story
One thing I have learned over and over again about fashion and style is that it seriously doesn’t matter where you buy your clothes, how expensive they are, if they’re a certain brand or not, all that matters is how it’s all put together and really the energy and intention behind the person who is wearing it! Fashion simply can not be described or looked at in one way, that would simply take away the point of fashion to begin with! There are never ending ways to use fashion as a way to express certain looks, styles, and designs and sometimes that means a $4 faux fur vest from the thrift store! I was simply NOT okay when I found this in the thrift store! One because I love a good faux fur look, and two, because I love the colour brown! Plus it’s a faux fur VEST and you don’t see these often anymore! Not to mention it was $4! It’s one of my new favourite winter pieces in my wardrobe! It even have a zipper, and the quality is amazing!

I have always loved thrifting for so many reasons and I’ve gotten really good at it over the years so I thought I would share a bit about it and how you can use thrifting to level up your style and wardrobe!
Voila, It’s Vintage & Unique
There is just something about finding a piece thrifting that you absolutely love, and knowing that nobody is going to have that one item you found! It just makes it so much more special to you! You have no idea most of the time where the items came from, how long they have been around and who knows if any more even exist anymore! It make the thrifting experience so unique to your own style and wardrobe! I always get so many questions whenever I wear this faux fur vest, and when I tell people it was $4 from the thrift store they either think I’m lying or they tell me how lucky I am to have found such a vintage gem! So voila, it’s vintage, and it was only $4 from the freaking thrift store! Having unique pieces in your wardrobe that make you excited is what really sets your sense of style up for success! What I love most about the art of fashion and design, is that there are no rules or price tags restricting your own sense of style and uniqueness!
“trendy” Thrifting
Thrifting is something that almost everybody does these days and has become a mainstream trend in the fashion world, and that’s incredible because it’s such a great way to slow down the fast fashion industry! Although I’m not perfect what so ever when it comes to buying second hand, I always love to thrift! It allows me to find cute, unique pieces that help me define my own sense of style and uniqueness! It can allow you to gain confidence in your own sense of style, wearing pieces that you find love in! It shouldn’t be so much about it being trendy, I often find that’s when you don’t find what you’re looking for! Don’t get overwhelmed when it comes to thrifting, go with an open mind and see what pops out to you and really use your imagination when you see something you love! When I find something I love I immediately start getting visions of how I would style it or use it in my looks and I get so excited! That’s how I know I found a good piece! Always go with an inspired intention!
sustainability
Thrifting immensely helps reduce the amount of clothes that end up in our landfills, that’s another reason why I love it and I’m passionate about incorporating pieces in my wardrobe that are second hand! It has helped me stay inspired when it comes to my love for fashion and helped me curate my own sense of style! I think thrifting can easily be overlooked sometimes when it comes to big brand names, and luxury items, but I so often find it’s the pieces you find thrifting that really can elevate your looks and sense of style! Not to mention this has incredible impacts on reducing your own personal carbon footprint and if that’s something you have awareness around then thrifting is something you’ll probably love or that you’re already doing! Sustainable shopping is something I always keep in the back of my mind when buying things and shopping for clothes and this has given me a new perspective on shopping in general and helped me get really good at thrifting!
How i thrive at thrifting
Over the past couple of years I have found some really good pieces and finds while thrifting, number one being my new faux fur vest! I have gotten really good at thrifting so I’ll round up my favourite tips and tricks when it comes to finding the goods when second hand shopping! Here’s are my top tips on how I thrive at thrifting, and how you too!
TIP ONE:
Check the mens!! Always check the mens section! They always have some really good finds that usually would never be placed in the women’s section, especially if your a lover of oversized pieces like me! I always check the mens section for jeans, and hoodies/crewnecks! The mens jeans are so much better, you will find better styles and cuts with more of a trendy style! You can also find some cute over sized vintage looking sweatshirts and crewnecks in the mens section!
TIP TWO:
Don’t go with a very specific items or look in mind! Be open minded and in an inspired intention when you go, otherwise you might block out certain pieces you may actually like!
TIP THREE:
Don’t get overwhelmed or frustrated when you can’t find any good pieces, or if you feel like you have no idea what you’re looking for! I have left many thrift stores empty handed before landing on a good find! Patience is rewarded in the game of thrifting!
TIP FOUR:
Know that thrifting and buying second hand greatly reduces your carbon footprint and helps reduce the amount of clothes that end up at the landfills! Knowing this always helps drive my love for thrifting and finding unique pieces, and that alone helps me feel inspired and lucky when thrifting!
