The Real Luxury in Life – Picnics

If There’s a Blanket and a Basket, I’m There

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s this: I don’t just love picnics — I live for them. There’s something so sacred about them. The way the food tastes fresher, the colours feel deeper, the light dances through trees or sparkles across the water… it’s more than just a meal outdoors — it’s a portal to presence.

For me, picnics are a form of presence & peace. They’re how I ground myself back into the moment. Surrounded by beauty — a linen blanket, a perfect peach, a warm breeze — there’s nothing else calling for your attention. You’re just there. With your senses. With your soul. And that kind of stillness? It’s where I find inspiration. Always.

Whether you’re under cherry trees, perched on a beach towel in Positano, or deep in a golden field somewhere barefoot and glowing — the magic of a picnic is in the details. So consider this your go-to guide for creating the ultimate outdoor moment — packed with mood-setting ideas, styling tips, and ways to romanticize every second of it.

This particular picnic took place on the farm where I pick raspberries and cherries every summer — one of my favourite places on earth. I kept the setup simple but full of intention: thick slices of sourdough with honey-whipped cream cheese and my homemade raspberry jam, a pitcher of lemon water, and bowls of fresh-picked berries — all laid out under the trees on old wooden boards. It was perfection, the fruit, the sun, of course my cavies, and a very full heart.

Perfecting the Picnic

No. 1 Set The Mood: Vision & Vibe

First, choose the world you want to step into — because your picnic isn’t just a meal, it’s a mood. Is it giving romantic cottage-core or sun-drenched Italian coast? Minimal meadow moment or dreamy garden tea? Choose the feeling before you choose the food. Every picnic has a world of its own — build the aesthetic, the energy, the essence. Let your vision lead the way. The food, the outfit, the setting — it all flows from the vision & vibe your creating.

Here are a few curated tones for inspo & to play with that are my faves:

The Fairycore Tea Party
Rose petal scones, lavender lemonade, floral china, and linen napkins. Think soft pastels, vintage details, and ribbons in your hair.
Best for: flower gardens, cherry blossoms, orchard nooks.

The Golden Field Girl
Barefoot in linen dresses, baskets of fresh fruit, mismatched dishes, and wildflowers tucked into your curls. Think rustic jam jars, feminine, and glowing.
Best for: open fields, country roads, golden hour.

The Italian Beach Muse
Bronzed skin, wet hair, olives, grapes, prosciutto, baguettes, and chilled vino. Think Bikini under a sheer dress, sensual, simplicity, & à la dolce vita.
Best for: the coast, Europe, sunny docks, or lake days with a Turkish towel and tan lines.

Let your vibe shape everything — the food, the textiles, the outfit, even the soundtrack. The energy you create is what you’ll remember most. When you start with this, everything seamlessly comes together!

No. 2 The Art of the Spread: Tastes & Textures

The food is never just food when it comes to a picnic— it’s texture, colour, sensory, memory. The spread is what grounds you, nourishes you, and visually sets the tone for the whole scene. This is where your vision becomes tangible. Start with what the setting calls for. What’s growing around you? What’s in season? What would feel good to touch, sip, tear, or taste in the setting you’re in.

Now that the vibe is set, it’s time to build your scene:

Food that fits the setting
If you’re under a cherry tree, bring the cherries to life — jam, tarts, or fruit paired with soft cheeses. Use your surroundings to pull everything together & lean into that energy. I did exactly that for this picnic — with thick sourdough toast, honey whipped cream cheese, and a generous spoonful of my homemade raspberry jam, made from berries picked just steps away. You can find the full toast recipe here and the jam recipe here. If you’re going coastal or European, think sun-drenched simplicity: baguette, prosciutto, grapes, and wine. If your going garden fairy, think beautiful pastries, delicate sandwiches, & sweet treats!

Presentation & Texture matter
Skip the plastic (trust me). Use mismatched ceramics, wooden boards, linen napkins, vintage dishes, gold utensils, textured blankets, Turkish towels— these little touches slow you down and invite you to savour. The little woven in details make the experience feel grounded and intentional.

Drinks to match
Iced herbal tea, sparkling lemonade, or a chilled rosé. Let your drinks be as intentional as your outfit. Even water with lemon slices can feel like a whole moment when curated with care. Every mood deserves a matching pour & every sip should set the tone!

The spread should feel like a visual love letter to the moment. Let it slow you down. Let it make you want to sit a little longer. This is the part where pleasure becomes presence.

No. 3 Romanticize Everything: Beauty & Being

This is where the moment becomes magic. Where your intention meets expression. You’ve set the mood, built the spread — now you become part of the scene. Romanticizing isn’t about performance. It’s about presence. It’s about choosing to let beauty be part of your every gesture — what you wear, how you sit, how you pour your drink, how you place a peach on a plate like it’s art. That choice to care — even when no one’s watching — that’s the ritual.

Ways to bring beauty into the moment:

Dress the part
Whether it’s a white linen dress, a sheer cover-up, or a tied silk scarf — wear something that makes you feel soft and alive. The goal isn’t perfect. The goal is felt within your feminine nature. For this picnic, I slipped into a little white dress — a summer staple I always come back to. Simple, timeless, and easy to elevate. I’m wearing the same one over in the raspberry bushes in Summer Staple Series No.1: The Little White Dress, where you’ll also find a few fresh links to other beautiful options if you’re looking for some little white dress inspiration.

Choose beauty in every way
Use the cloth napkin. Bring the glass bottle. Use your favourite dishes. Light the candle if you feel like it. Bring out the vintage baskets & glass bowls. These little luxuries are love notes to yourself — invitations to stay a little longer and soak up the moment of art you created.

Let it be sensual
Eat slowly. Lounge without apology. Let your hair down. Feel the sun on your shoulders. Let it be a full-body memory. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature around you and soak it all in.

This is where you stop “doing a picnic” and start living inside it. Let it be art. Let it be extra. Let it be you, let it be romantic, and allow yourself to be fully immersed in the beauty you just created. It’s what makes picnics so special and scared!

Picnics are where I return to myself and my love for creating an aesthetic moment. A blanket, a basket with a curated spread, a quiet place to land — that’s all it really takes. These little moments of stillness, sweetness, and softness… they’re not extra. They’re essential. Because the real luxuries in life aren’t things — they’re feelings.

And this? This is what it feels like to be alive, in love, and completely at peace.

This is how I stay in love with life. Over and over again.
