I absolutely love denim! From denim dresses to denim coats, to a good pair of denim jeans… I love it all! Styling denim is also one of my favourite ways to play with my style and make some outfits really chic or bold! Denim fabrics or details can also add so much texture and depth to certain looks so it can be really fun to play with! Denim jeans are one of my absolute favourite pieces to style and wear! I also loveeeee a chic Canadian tuxedo look, and I’ve been loving denim trench coats lately! I loved this look from last year at the Pumpkin Path! Anyways you get my point… I love denim haha! I have fallen in love with finding and styling denim and I’m going to share all my denim jean inspirations and findings for you below! I’ll link to some of my favourite new denim picks as well!
The Denim Jean
Denim jean trends definitely tend to stick around a lot longer then some of the other fashion fads and I think this is because of their versatile nature! You can dress denim jeans up to be elegant and sophisticated, but you can also dress them down and go for a more baggy and relaxed look… there’s so much room to play when it comes to styling denim jeans! I can’t even recall the amounts of times elderly women has come up to me and told me my jeans look exactly like the pair they had back in the day and they love to see they’re still ‘in style’ lol! I definitely take this as a compliment I think it’s so cute! Merilyn Monroe was one of the first female movie stars to ever wear denim jeans on the big screen in her movie The Misfits (1961), she wore an all denim look and after that denim jeans really took off! I always say it must have started with Merilyn, because she’s so iconic! A couple good pairs of denim jeans is a must in my wardrobe, I love the styles to be bold and and roomy! I’ll share with you my top styles and picks when it comes to styling and picking denim jeans and what I’ve been loving lately! Here is my inspo for look and styling denim, everything is linked below.
Low, Loose & Baggy
After years and years of trying out different jean styles I have come to a main conclusion for myself and that is that I love love love the low, loose and baggy look when it comes to denim jeans. I much prefer this vibe as to the skinny jean look or jegging trend! But I certainly went through wearing those styles as well haha! What I love about the low, loose & baggy look is how much room there is to play with the style! You can wear something tighter on top to create a silhouette, or go baggy on top to match the jean! Once you start playing with this style of pant it will easily become one of your favourite denim jean looks! It’s definitely mine! I paired this pair of denim with a tighter white top to create a beautiful small on stop full on bottom silhouette and I absolutely loved how it turned out! Or on the contrast check out this look here to see me pair this style of pant with a baggy tee on top! Both are so cute and equally chic it really just comes down to how and what your feeling like wearing that day! It’s why I love styling jeans! I also love how the baggy jeans hit the floor, there’s just something about it and I love the vibe it gives! Here are some of my top low loose and baggy denim jean picks, I’m obsessed with all of them!
Colour & Contrast – Ft Indigo Blue For Fall
When it comes to finding a pair of denim jeans you love and are excited about a lot of it comes down to the colour and how it contrasts with your other pieces and looks! I naturally gravitate towards the darker/bluer toned denim for fall and winter, but love a lighter toned denim for spring and summer! This fall season indigo jeans have been very popular, which I actually have been loving myself! This colour of denim works so nicely with my fall wardrobe because I tend to wear a lot of white, blacks and browns and the deeper indigo colour contrasts so nicely with this! Where as in the summer/spring I love to pair lighter blue denim with pops of colour and lighter shades, like pinks, pastels and vibrant shades! That’s why I chose this deep indigo inky colour jean for this look, they’re the perfect fall jean… I’m obsessed! Here are some other indigo jean styles I’m loving!
Oversize & Accessorized
One of my favourite sayings when it comes to styling jeans is oversize & accessorized! After all, an oversized trench or big bomber is a baggy jeans best friend! I love pairing my denim jeans with something oversized to get a chic look, but also to balance it out with some accessories and details to really pull it all together! A belt, purse, or shoe can all be great ways to enhance a denim look! I accessorized this look by adding in a patterned bag and shoe, as well as the brown belt! I also paired this look with a very oversized trench coat! I love all the different oversized elements going on, but it still flows together because of the finer accessories I added in! Once you play around a little bit with this styling rule of oversize & accessorize with denim jeans you’ll have so much fun styling denim and creating new looks!
Simple Style or Pattern Poise
This leads us right to our next way to style denim! When it comes to denim you can either go two ways when it comes to creating a statement look! You can keep it simple style, for example your classic baggy jean with a white tee or tank to create a balanced look! Add in some minimal accessories and voila, it’s so simple but such a chic classic when done right! Creating this simple style really allows the denim jean to be the focal point and creates a beautiful sleek look! Sometimes when the style of the jean is extravagant or has a lot of volume, you’ll want to pair it with something more simple so it can be the star of the show! That’s when I’ll lean more towards a simple style when it comes to denim! Then on the other side of things you can have pattern poise and style your denim with eccentric patterns and accents that really make it pop! This creates a bold and unique look but when balanced, you can tell it was created with so much poise! That’s why I call it the pattern poise! I was inspired to do this in this look here, I called it simple with a twist! I kept the overall look simple, the baggy jean with the white tank. But also added in some fun fall patterns that really took the look to the next level. Both the leopard print ballet flats, and the cow print bag are great ways to use pattern poise when it comes to styling a pair of denim jeans! I don’t know if I would wear both on the same day, I would probably pick one. but I was shooting two looks on this day haha, it was kinda a vibe though!
Denim This, Denim That
When it comes to denim there is no shortage of options when it comes to different wardrobe pieces. I find myself looking for my denim this and my denim that…which sometimes leaves me heading out the door in denim on denim otherwise known as the classic Canadian tuxedo! Which in my opinion is such a fun way to style denim, I absolutely love a good denim on denim look which I already mentioned earlier! I have been collecting different denim items I love over the years and it is really fun to create looks with multiple denim pieces! You can keep it classic with a denim jean and denim jacket or button up! Or one of my favourites is a wide leg denim jean, with a denim trench! I also love my denim bucket hat and tote bags! If you’re feeling bored of your denim jeans this is the perfect way to re-inspire yourself! Try a denim skirt, or hop on the popular denim jort trend! Or invest in a beautiful denim trench! This will lively up your denim style, and it’s so fun to mix and match denim pieces together! Here are some denim pieces I absolutely adore!
I absolutely loved chatting all things denim! I love sharing my fashions inspirations, styling ideas and wardrobe dreams with all of you! I feel inspired to create and style denim looks with poise and
