How to Style Combat Boots
I LOVE a pair of bold, chunky and fun combat boots! They are a staple in my closet and I can never seem to have enough pairs! Combat boots have been around for forever, they are such a classic and will never go out of style! You can wear them in all seasons, and there are so many ways you can style and wear them to make them work for you and your personal aesthetic! I personally love to wear a chunky combat boot in any season and I have different ways I like to style them depending on the rest of the outfit! I know that combat boots may seem a little intimidating to style and play around with but trust me it’s so much easier than you think! I was kinda nervous when I first started experimenting with combat boots a few years ago, but when I first started to style them I realized how fabulously they went with a variety of outfits! If you’re thinking about adding another pair of combat boots to your wardrobe or on the fence about them, I say it’s definitely worth it and they will fit into your wardrobe perfectly! This is how I love to style and wear my combat boots, and how I styled them with this classic oversized sweater dress!
How to Style Combat Boots
Combat boots definitely make a statement in your outfit as they add some edge and boldness, which is amazing because that is something you can play around with and play that up or down depending on the rest of your outfit! When I go to style a pair of combat boots I generally have a few self trends that I follow every time that I do just naturally because I think it looks fab! These might seem very simple and straightforward because they are! Like I mentioned styling combat boots is not as intimidating as it seems! Okay so this is what I love to do when it comes to styling combat boots and how I did that in this outfit.
All About Balance
I love to balance the boldness and harshness of combat boots by adding some more feminine and elegant touches to make it really work with my personal style! Creating a sense of balance in your look when it comes to any combat boot is going to be key! I added in this chic yet simple white headband to bring in another layer and more feminine detail. This is one example of how I balanced the grunge of the chunky boots to flow with the rest of my outfit! The headband doesn’t completely change the look which is a good thing, but it does enough to soften and balance it for this specific look! Layer to Flow
Especially when it comes to pairing your combat boots with a dress, biker shorts or any garment that is going to leave your legs showing I always have to layer a high, tight black sock (or white depending on the outfit) underneath to allow for more of a flow between these layers! It might just be a personal pet peeve haha but I can’t stand when there is a gab between the top of your boot and your skin ESPECIALLY when you can visibly see it! I personally need there to be a transition from the boot to my leg it just feels and looks better to me personally! In this outfit the boots flow to the dress easier because of the socks adding that extra little bit of transition! It just seems to flow better in my eyes and I love that it adds an extra layer and detail, especially when you pair your combat boots with a textured or detailed socks and you can tell! So cute!
Create Colour or Contrast
Adding in some colour or contrast with your combat boot is a great way to create another sense of boldness throughout the outfit! In this outfit I went with contrast because most of my outfit was black to begin with! I contrasted all this black by pairing it with the white headband and purse to really pull the colours apart and by adding these two simple things it really makes the outfit brand new! Next time you want to style your favourite combat boots try adding contrasting colours, or maybe a fun pop of colour to add some edge to your look! These additions go perfect with the boldness of the boot, but still add in a feminine touch to soften to grunge look!
Pair With Something Poised
I love the girly-meets-grunge look, and there are so many ways you can create and achieve this look with your combat boots! This is exactly what I mean when I say pair your combat boots with something poised, something that is more elegant and graceful that is opposite to the look of the combat boot itself! This can be an adorable babydoll dress, or something with puffy sleeves, something more cutesy that is more saccharine! This oversized black sweater dress isn’t the most ‘girly’ dress but it is still very elegant and simple on its own, it has the puffy sleeves that goes into the tight wrist line, which helps it create a poised and elegant look! When I paired it with these combat boots I felt it went together perfectly creating a girly yet edgy look! Accessories are also a great way to bring in some cuteness, with an edgy boot, I found this simple white purse added to this as well!
