The Self-Trends I Follow and Love

What do I mean by self-trends? Haha well I kinda made it up as I thought about talking about this, it just kinda made sense! All I mean is that it’s these little trends that I made up for myself I guess that I follow when it comes to my clothes, styling and outfits! I think everyone has these self-trends we just aren’t even aware of them! And for me fashion and styling it’s just what I love to do, so I’m very aware of them I guess you could say! If you’re reading this then I’m sure you love a good outfit, details, and have your own styling routines too! So basically all I mean by self-trends is that they are just habits and ways I love to style that have become a part of my own personal styling method! Just like the trends we see in the fashion world, coming and going and going and coming back again. These self trends can also change up for me too and of course aren’t rigid, but these ones I talk about are always ones I love and that I’m just naturally drawn too. So I thought I would share them with you guys for some inspiration or maybe just some new ideas on how to style some of your wardrobe! You might even find that some of mine are ones you already love to do too! Ok lets get to the self trends I follow and love when it comes to my wardrobe and styling!

The Self-Trends I Follow and Love

Layering

You guys I love to layer outfits, I mean the detail and depth that different layers adds when the outfits comes together is so good! And that’s simply why fall and winter fashion for me is the absolute best, because of all the layers and texture combinations you can do! Plus it gives you lots of room to bring in detail. Whether thats through the fabrics and how they mesh together, or with smaller details on your pieces and how you can use layers to bring them out! Let’s just briefly make sure we are on the same page with layering and what I actually mean by it because again haha I kind of just made up these terminologies for these Self-Trends! Okay so what I mean by layering is that your outfit is more than just a top and bottom, you bring in some more creation and depth to the outfit by adding in something else! This might be a vintage oversized throw on coat, or adding a black long sleeve under your oversized tee! It’s something that you don’t necessarily need to have but just makes the outfit so much better and creates more of a statement or aesthetic to what you’re wearing! It can also be something as simple as when you see people showcasing a chunky or some type of aesthetic sock in their outfit, its just another layer to the outfit that adds another section of detail! Guys tend to do this with the socks haha! Especially in athletic fashion aesthetics. Do you know what I mean lol? So layering just gives you the opportunity to add in another section of detail and creates more of a look! I purposely layered in this really cute ruffled long sleeve because I knew it would be a layer that could be seen under this oversized jean coat! It also has the detail of the textured fabric which gets spotlighted by creating this layer!

Always Have Oversized

I love having the option to throw something oversized on whether that is something as simple as an oversized hoodie or an oversized jean jacket to finish a look. I’m also short so things are just generally longer on me anyway lol, but with oversized items its so easy to add in some extra style by rolling up the sleeves, or the bottoms of your pants for example. I did this below to give this oversized jean jacket some more texture by rolling up the sleeves because they are longer. This jean jacket isn’t supposed to fit as large and long as it shows, I think I bought it 1-2 sizes bigger to create a looser and more flowing fit because I knew it would be a perfect oversized throw over for summer evenings when going out, and then also works perfect to put layers on underneath it for my fall outfits! I find that having these oversized items, hoodies, jackets, or coats, just gives you some more room to play with looks and your style! It also really depends on the particular piece and how you want it to fit and look, so my tip is always always try on all the sizes when it comes to jackets, coats, and hoodies, sometimes pants too it can allow you to creates such a different look.

Gold Jewelry & Accessories

Gold jewelry. That’s is all! I love it so much! It just adds the most perfect and feminine touch to any look. I love gold because even if you go for a harsher or darker coloured look, its brings like this femine touch out and softens out your look! Yeah so I’m obsessed with gold jewels and I think this is one trend that I will have for my entire life time haha $$$$! If you too love yourself some pretty gold hoops, or rings you know what I mean! I also love to add in other accessories too just depending on the outfit! Maybe some type of bag, a tote or fashion bag, or do something with my hair! You can check out my favourite hairstyles here, in this look I used a smaller claw clip to add in another piece to this look!

Colour or Shade Combination

I love when an outfit flows all the way from start to finish and just in some way makes aesthetic sense! No matter what it is or even if it’s something you would wear, if something works and is created with an artistic vision you can just tell! I have noticed that over the years one way I love to kind of pull my outfits together is by using the flow of colour or some type of colour or shade combination. This can be very noticeable colour themes, or more on the subtle side through similar shades combinations. Just depends on the day, your look, or the purpose of the outfit I’m creating but it always shows through as a theme in some way or another, and I notice it with so many other inspo pictures I see too! For example I love the colour brown, I have so much of it in my closet, from tops, pants, sweaters, jackets and I love to create an outfit that has a brown shade theme, incorporating this shade in various way in the outfit! It looks so aesthetic having the brown continue throughout the outfit, it has to be in a way that flows! You can see I also did this here with the white ruffled long sleeve and the cream pants. It’s almost as though its one colour creating this shaded colour theme throughout the outfit, but its two pieces together creating that! This is so fun when creating more funky, and colourful looks too!
