How Meditation Changed My Life & How to Start

I was never someone who meditated, and definitely not someone who thought meditation would become a crucial part of my life. To be honest I thought it was kinda weird and never gave it much of my own thought, I wondered how people even had the time to just think about and do ‘nothing’. I wondered don’t they get bored? Why would you want to do that? I don’t have time for that, I’m just too busy. Yeah ok Easton, makes me laugh with love for that version of me. The only reason why I was thinking that way was because deep down the thought of me doing that, sitting in silence with myself and my thoughts really scared me, even though I didn’t know it at the time. We tell ourselves we have too much on our mind, too much going on, too much to think about, too much to get done. What if I told you all of that, those reasons ‘why’ you won’t connect with yourself, are the exact things blocking you from feeling happy with yourself in the first place. All the things you think you ‘want’ and ‘have’ to do in your life.

I’ve always been someone with huge goals, big dreams, and amazing desires but what happened is that I learned that the hustle, ‘do do do’, ‘go go go’ and chasing mindset gets you no where. Well it might take you somewhere, but it’s not going to make you feel how you thought it would, and it can be heartbreaking. Always trying to achieve or attain something outside of you, you will never be happy. That’s where mediation came in for me, I had to change who I was from the inside out to ultimately change my life. I’ve always known that deep down I want nothing close to an average or mediocre life, and that desire alone has put me down a path of self-discovery and self acceptance, which is because now I understand it is the only path to a life of true self-fulfilment, success and joy. This is not what I always believed, I really did think it would come from my external world, with what I ‘achieved’, ‘did’, ‘have’. But learning this has all been crucial to my own journey.

Meditation changed my life because it’s where I rebuilt myself when the things that weren’t meant for me were stripped away. It’s where I learned that the mind is the only place you have full control and sovereignty over. It’s where I learned to love and accept myself first. It’s where I learned to stop running. It’s where I learned that my dreams, desires and goals are already here, within me now. It’s where I learned to just finally just stop and surrender to my divine path and purpose. It’s where I learned my true creative and creator power. It seriously has changed who I am, how I look, and how I see myself and the world around me.

What we don’t seem to understand is that the further you stray from having this type of connection with yourself, the further you get from living a life that feels so amazing, aligned and purposeful. When we are living in a numbed out state, which most of us are, the less alive we feel. You end up chasing that aliveness somewhere outside of you, instead of feeling it here NOW. I once believed that meditation, the thing that actually is proven to change your brain and your life, is what I didn’t have time for but the things that drained me did? Crazy what our minds will tell us if we don’t become aware of how our own programming and sub conscious minds are dictating us. This is why so many people end up in jobs or careers that they aren’t fulfilled or happy in, we ignore and completely disregard the importance of stillness and the connection to ourselves. In the silence of our minds, in the stillness of inner-peace is where we receive guidance and soulful remembrance of who we are and what we came here to do. It’s literally where we can rewrite our story, change who we are, create our dream life, and connect to something deeper, if that’s what you chose. But meditation is not just some spiritual concept, it’s where you become and learn to be a conscious creator of your own life. It goes hand in hand with manifestation, understand that we are constantly creating our lives and what we experience through our own thoughts and beliefs (this is just a fact), when we become aware and awake to this concept meditation is a tool we can use to rewire, rewrite and change old version of the self. Change old patterns, thoughts and beliefs and update them with ones that align with our highest self. You will change your life.

Why I started Meditating & Tips on How You Can Too!

I just want to start off by saying that meditation can be done so many different ways, and can be personalized to you. You don’t have to be a crazy monk meditator to achieve your dream life, heal yourself or change parts of yourself, that is so unattainable and not for everyone. I don’t believe that meditation can just be categorized as one thing, sitting cross legged on the floor eye closed, pure silence. I mean that’s what people think most of the time when they think of meditation but that’s not true. If it were, I would not be writing this haha! I want to share this with you because if I can do this so can you, and I want you to live a life that feels so amazing because you deserve it!

I first started meditating in the spring/summer of 2020, this was the very beginning stages of self discovery journey/awakening so meditation had a different meaning even then than it does to me now. My relationship with meditating evolves, as my relationship with myself changes too! My brother always would say to me every-time I brought up being anxious or stressed (this was a very stressful and anxious time of my life), that I should meditate on why I feel that way. I was always like no that would make it worse blah blah excuse excuse. He was at the time and is still big into meditating and definitely guided me to it. But of course after his multiple reminders to meditate, and my failed attempts to numb away my feelings, I was open to trying anything to get to where I wanted to be and to feel GOOD so I started. I had no idea what to do, how to do it, if it was doing to right, I went though all the things your mind thinks (which is the point). I started with you-tubing 10 minute morning meditations, this turned into 20 minutes, maybe 2-3 times a week to start, it was never perfect it still isn’t. It was a small little micro habit that I built into my everyday life that has completely shifted how I operate and live each day. I went from operating numbly from the mind, not even being aware of myself or my thoughts, to feeling and living from my heart and began clearing away everything that blocked that connection. This is just a natural process that occurs over time with even just 5 minutes a day, seriously. It does not have to be complicated!

The first 6 months of this year was incredibly challenging one for me, it pushed and broke me in ways I didn’t know I had the capability to feel. I had to face some of my biggest fears and let go of things that I didn’t want to at the time. The pain and suffering that I felt as these emotions and old ways of being began to surface throughout this time was very very hard for me, if I’m being honest I felt as though I was going to die and remain in my pain for a lifetime. I can honestly say that I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t have meditation in my life, or just not aware of its full impacts. Meditation quickly transformed from something I just added into my morning routine, to a place where I could go within myself on my darkest and scariest days where I felt the most alone I ever have. I would have ran so hard from this 3 years ago. There was no where to run anymore. I had to sit with myself, validate myself, and love myself even harder. I learned that in this space with yourself, it is the only place with all the answers we are seeking outside of ourselves.

I just think about all the different ways I would have handled these experiences or emotions or what I would have done in the past if I didn’t create this habit for myself 2 years ago, and that would have been a completely different version of me. Over time, this little habit has turned into something that has changed how I make decisions, how I react, how I treat myself, and ultimately now that I look back, has completely changed the course of my life and where I truly desire to go.

I would never have believed you if you would have told me I would be here and feel that way I do now. A large reason why is because of the connection I created with myself, and it’s never going to look perfect and it shouldn’t! I want to share some of my favourite resources and people who have impacted my meditation journey and you might find them helpful as well! It’s funny because when you’re on this journey the universe definitely guides you to teachers or people who you can learn from. I love Ella RingRose and Leeor Alexandra, they have amazing content that has helped me immensely on my own journey, they also inspired me to start meditating with all their free meditations! You can also just youtube any meditation or meditation music, or use any type of music that makes you feel alive and try to focus your energy on your breath, remember meditation is not just done one way, the intention is just to connect with self.

I also have to talk about Mimi Bouchard and her incredible app SuperHuman! I am obsessed with it, I literally use it throughout the day! Her story is also so inspiring and I relate to her so much! She is totally changing the meditation game, her app has 12 different types of meditation categories to make it easy for you to fit them into your day! The music and sound is incredible, it’s not just your typical meditation app! I love the getting ready ones, walking ones, and the cleaning ones! There is seriously a mediation on there for everything! I have been using the app for about 7 months and I just don’t think anything can beat it, it has helped me immensely! I would definitely recommend her app to anyone!

When you even just start with 5 minutes a day, you’re creating new energy and momentum towards yourself and you will start to truly embody your higher self, that version of you that you know exists. This will become your new normal as your body and mind become conditioned to these newer more aligned versions of you! It’s just the natural process of evolution and conscious creating and I wouldn’t want it any other way! I crave this connection to myself now, and I can feel when I am out of alignment with myself and meditation does the trick every time! I hope that my journey and story with meditation has inspired you to even just try meditating, in whatever way that looks like for you! After all, it really is all up to you isn’t it! Love you
